Russ Goforth is a 49-year-old bachelor. He was retired and bored, he says, after selling his medical equipment company, Preferred Respiratory Services. So with time and money on his hands, he set about the heavy lifting required for toting even a simple idea to market.
He worked up prototypes. He hired a patent attorney. He took the products to the Super Zoo pet products show in September '04 in Las Vegas, and to the Global Pet Expo in March '05 in Orlando, which is the largest Pet Product Manufacturers Convention that has ever occurred in the United States.
RGO Enterprises, a company located in Memphis, Tennessee, had their new product creations, the Easy Ride Paw Porch and the Easy Ride Shoulder Perch, featured on the "Today Show" March 17, 2005. Now these two products are described as being "The hottest new pet products".
The Easy Ride Paw Porch was invented by Russ and Robert Goforth after Russ rescued an abandoned dog while deer hunting. The dog was living under a dilapidated shack barely surviving on the small rodents that it could catch or dig up. Even though the dog, now named Ă‚“HunterĂ‚”, was infested with insects and starving, her friendly personality led Russ to take her home. Once at his home, he discovered "Hunter" loved to ride in his SUV. However, she scratched up the door each time he turned, stopped or hit a bump. The Paw Porch was created to help prevent car interior paw scratches and to provide the pet a larger non-skid surface that would help the dog "get a grip" and it works with the window up or down.
The products are so simple it's a wonder someone hadn't already dreamed them up. After all, how many generations of dogs have been riding shotgun - and sliding scattershot - alongside their owners?
